Wednesday, April 3, 2019WESTBOROUGH – April 3, 2019 - The Massachusetts Broadband Institute, on behalf of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, has finalized an agreement with WiValley-MA, Inc., on a grant of up to $2,315,461 to construct and operate a wireless network that will bring high-speed internet connectivity to the towns of Florida, Hawley, Monroe, and Savoy. The four towns have agreed to aggregate their allocations under the Last Mile program and have entered into a separate 10-year agreement with WiValley, which will construct the wireless network and offer service to over 1,000 households in conjunction with Maine-based OTELCO, which will provide wireless internet and telephone services.

Friday, January 11, 2019On Dec. 26, 2018, the Massachusetts Broadband Institute at MassTech (MBI) approved an award of $2.2 million to Comcast to build a broadband network covering the town of Worthington, MA, an award made following the selection of the Comcast proposal at a town vote in May and through the negotiation of a cable franchise agreement between the Town and Comcast. This is the first award made under the MBI's Flexible Grant Program.

Wednesday, December 26, 2018WESTBOROUGH – The Massachusetts Broadband Institute at MassTech (MBI) has formally approved an award of $2.2 million to Comcast to support the construction of a broadband network in the Town of Worthington, Mass. The grant, which was approved by both the MassTech Executive Committee and by the MBI Board of Directors, followed a majority vote at Worthington’s Town Meeting in May choosing Comcast and supporting the construction of its advanced fiber network to deliver broadband to the town, including approval of a project coverage map. Comcast and Worthington also signed a formal Cable Franchise Agreement on December 11th. The proposed broadband network will deliver expanded connectivity to over 96 percent of Worthington’s residential and business premises once the project is complete.

Friday, November 30, 2018The Landmark newspaper highlights progress on Charter's buildout of a network in Princeton, Mass., a project which was part of a $4.42 million dollar award to Charter from the MBI's Private Provider grant program announced in July 2017. The Town of Princeton also received a separate $100,000 grant from the MBI to reimburse the town for 'make ready' work that supported the network's construction.
