State lights first section of statewide broadband connection

In 2008, the Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI) set its sights on providing the Commonwealth’s underserved businesses, schools and municipalities with affordable high-speed Internet or broadband. Inclusive of these efforts, the agency’s list of action items included strengthening the states innovation economy and expanding technology-related opportunities. Today, and in support of this mission, MBI, a division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, proudly lit the first segment of the new 1,200 mile MassBroadband 123 network to 51 out of 120 community institutions from Springfield to Sandisfield, Mass.  Find out more
